Better late than never

In a poor small house lived a widow and her dearest daughter. Although they were impecunious, the daughter never feels so because her mom always worked hard and sacrificed the best for her, while indulge her in the infinite, unconditional love. 

However, the young age and immaturity blinded the daughter eyes, making her taking her mom’s love for granted. One day the mom had a car accident, and was carried to the hospital.

As soon as the daughter heard about the misfortune, she dropped the dress she was trying for that night’s party, and ran as fast as she can to the hospital. At that moment all she desired was just to say sorry for her indifference and tell her mom how much she loved her. 

Nevertheless, the girl arrived at the hospital just to see her mom lying straight on the white bed. The daughter let out a small gasp when she saw her mother’s face. Her eyes were closed as if she was sleeping, but it did not look like she was relaxing. Her face was rumbling, with wrinkles squeezed on each other and her mouth slightly opened to a frown. 

It seemed as if she was suffering. In the midst of emptiness, the girl grabbed her mother’s shoulders and shook them:

“Mom, please don’t make me worry! Please wake up! I have something that I have always wanted to tell you!”.

Despise her effort, her mom did not open her eyes again. And so the daughter cried and cried, and when her eyes have been dried she just sat beside her mom’s bed, staring absentmindedly at the mother’s face. 

One day a completely new doctor was assigned to take care of the mother came in the room. He asked with an unimaginably warm and kind voice:

“I heard about your incident. You love your mother a lot, don’t you?”

“Yes, I really do.” The girl nodded slightly, trying to hide the shame in her face.

There was silence, and the girl suddenly covered her face with her palms and burst into tears again.

The doctor was touched, and he pulled out a small bottle containing a strange glittering, silver liquid. He poured a few drops on her forehead. In the daughter’s amazement, her mom’s spirit separated from the stationary body. It was her old, kind and benevolent mother again, surrounded by a bright glow of light. 

Did not waste a second she shouted:

“Mom, I am so sorry for my indifference. Now, I have realized how much you meant to me, and I can’t live without you! I love you mom! Do you know that? I love you more than I can say!”

The mother smiled, “I know you do, dear. I just hoped that we can spend more time together. But don’t worry. Now I have seen you for the last time, I know you would live happily and meaningfully, for me.”

And then in a few seconds the mother’s spirit, along with the doctor flew out towards the blue wide sky. The daughter rushed to her mother’s body, and found out that what was a frown has become a relaxing, mild smile.
