I once read a book written by a very famous author, named: “Whose cheese should I take”. This book is about two mice living in the “cheese maze” where they can eat as much as they want from the “cheese fountain”. One day the supply depleted suddenly, thus making the mice very confused and scared. One mouse decided to find a new maze, but the other one chose to stay and wait for the cheese fountain to work again, but it never did. In the end, the first mouse found a new maze and continue to live his carefree life, while the one who resist making changes in their life died from hunger. I think this story is true for human too, because the ones who resist making changes in their life are usually the ones who lead a boring life, isolated by the society they live in and slow down the development of the modern world.
“A life without risks is not worth living”, quote aviator Charles Lindberg. Believe it or not, people who resist making changes will consequently have a boring life. They do the same job everyday, eat foods that they are familiar with and never try something new. These people usually die in silence, because their lives are so dug gloomy that no one knows if they were existed. Moreover, not only do they lead a boring life but these conservative thinkers are alienated by the people around them. This is easy to understand, since no one wants to befriend with a friend who is too stubborn to listen to everyone else and change his or her mind.
Furthermore, as the world revolves, it is our duty to adapt to the modern technology. By refusing the developments, we will make our life unnecessarily complicated. How can you contact with someone in an emergency when you refuse to use email and mobile phone? When looking at the bigger picture, people who refuse to change usually slow down the development of society. They never want to take risk experimenting new things and never think outside of the box. If everyone is conservative thinkers, if we all accept the world as it is and fear to make improvements, I am afraid that we might still be living in the ice age with no electricity.
Persuading people to make allowance for changes is not easy because the changes made by the conservative thinkers themselves are the most crucial factor to reverse this bad trend. I do not say that we have to change everything, because sometimes to be always changing is disastrous. Therefore, we all need to have flexibility. We have to weigh the advantages against the disadvantages before deciding to change or not to change. Nevertheless, to accept and make changes need a lot of time and effort because it is natural for human to resist making changes.
To conclude, life is like a race, if you are not making progress, you are falling behind. We are now inherited numerous inventions and developments from our predecessor. Thus, it is up to us not to decline or ignore it, but to cherish and improve it, to make this world a better place than yesterday.
